Formation and Players

Aston Villa -  Formations and Players - Part 1                  I would like to start with this blog, with these words, "The Numbers Don't Lie." Steve Bruce has used five formations this season, with varying amounts of success. He has used 26 different players with varying success. This blog will look at which formations and player selection work. The formations used are 4411, 3421, 433, 442, and 4231. The table below looks at the formations and Points per g

In Villa's Defense

There's no Defense!                Nobody will deny, the goals against Villa this season are going to send us down, but who is to blame? We can look around the Villa team and see areas with a lack of experience in their positions. Villa have Gana, Veretout, Ayew, Amavi, Okore, and more, but one area we have experience is defense. We look at Guzan, Hutton, Richards, Lescott, Clark, and Richardson, and we have 1490 games at a Premier or Championship

Aston Villa - Naughty or Nice

As we move towards the festive season, we will find out if Villa have been naughty, or nice. The next five fixture will show if the Remi has worked some magic on the training field. As we analyze those fixture, we will see if Villa will arrive at the New Year in high spirits.   Southampton (away): In the last six fixtures away to Southampton, Villa have only walked away with one win back in 2013. Delph's late strike secured the win, but with him slithering away to Manchester, do we have s

It's All About the Base!

It's All About the Base!            Since the arrival of the new "Garde", people have been talking about a new start. Sadly, after the 4-0 drubbing at Everton, new start or not, the same issues came to the surface. Villa have suffered with consistency for the last 5 years, the only thing that has been consistent is the fight against relegation. It is time to stop the tinkering with the team, and find a base we can build off.          It doesn't matter in th

Jack Grealish - A True Claret and Blue?

Jack Grealish - A True Claret and Blue?           In the Guardian, on the 14th October, 2014, Jack Grealish stated after signing a new four year contract, "I’ve grown up supporting the club. In fact I’ve had a season ticket at Villa since I was four years old and came to every game so this is a big thing for me and my family." Fast forward thirteen months, and the new Aston Villa manager labels Jack, "Unprofessional", as he is dropped from the squad to face Watford, in a

    • If you can't see the pitch from the pool, it's utterly pointless. If you can, it's brilliant.
    • The HS2 interchange will serve 10 trams per hour each with a capacity of 210 people. That wouldn't even help with the additional capacity on top of 42k, let alone the whole lot.
    • You just know whats going to happen ahead of time anyway. He'll take Toney, who will hardly feature, and when England crash out early the exact same media outlets who were crying for him to be picked will blame Southgate for not taking Ollie instead 😉  "England flounder as their top contributer sits at home"  You can just see the headlines now. I feel the same as you tbh, I always want England to do well, but I have 0 passion for the national team at the minute.
    • Yeah from what he actually said he's got a good grip of his situation at the moment. He has also made key contributions to our season already, played out of position he held up our left side at the start of the season and did ok without being amazing. He's also scored a few important goals too.  Compare with Bailey's first season, who was pretty much always played in his best position. Lots of people thought he would never make it with us. It's clearly not a walk in the park playing Emery's football, you have to understand and absorb a lot of details on where to be off the ball and patterns of play when you have it.  He's got the talent, if Emery thinks he can flourish like Bailey has then we should keep being patient with him.
    • Should find out from Emery’s press conference later today, but I can’t see JJ being fit for wolves
    • Cross City line is 5 tph all day and night (and will eventually return to 6tph. I think Witton is 2 tph but due to get more services soon.  That's minimum 7 probably up to 10 trains ph leaving Villa Park vicinity.  And the new Cross City line trains have a BIG increase in capacity.  They'll ferry far more passangers than the Cross Country and Voyagers that will call at Birmingham International
    • Probably why he had a pop at Ollie as well because he needs 4 chances to score compared to Toney
    • It would be the most Southgate thing ever to take Ollie to the Euros and only bring him on for 10 minutes (as we're on the brink of defeat against someone like Croatia in the knockouts) only to play him on the left wing and keep Kane up top.
