Halo 5 : Guardians

I never got the impression that Halo was all that big over here really. It's a big seller but never really got much buzz around it the way a CoD does.

Personally, I never much liked the series. Epitome of a take it or leave it title. Never, ever got on with the multiplayer on it, I have completed the first a few times over the years, the third once and Reach once, and none of then blew me away, bar about a thus of the first which glimpses absolute classic brilliance, and then turns into an overly long corridor slog and then shits itself inside out with the Flood.

Ill always like elements of the series but never really got on board with it.

I enjoy the games for the most part, it's a pretty polished shooter, but shooters just don't do much for me.

The best thing about Halo for me was playing online with friends but I don't do that all that often anymore either so it's hard to get hyped for this.

Yeah admittedly I've never been into the single player.  The pattern of getting to an area,  clearing out all the enemies,  moving into the next area,  clearing out all the enemies (rinse and repeat)  gets boring very fast and I've never understood why so many people hold the single player with such a high regard.  However,  the multiplayer is in my opinion the peak of FPS gameplay,  tied at the top with Counterstrike.  Getting on with friends is an absolute blast and that new Warzone game type looks like great fun (specially for casuals).  The new Forge looks amazing too so will be really interesting to see what maps the community come up with,  providing the game can keep people interested for more than a couple of months (which Halo4 completely failed to do).

Any news on the master chief collection coming on the PC? Not too bothered about the new Halo but I'd love to have the old ones on my PC. Can't see myself ever getting an Xbox One.

No nothing as far as I'm aware.  If it's anything like the xbox version it would just be a complete mess so you're not missing much :)

Amazing that they let the game come out so broken. That was genuinely the only game that would have tempted me to get the console. All 4 Halos with their campaigns, all the maps etc, if it was flawless I may have bought the console.

most overrated game series in history

SP is utter shite, think the only one i enjoyed was ODST

i thought the same of destiny too, boring, bland enemies, rubbish settings, no real attempt at a story for the most of it - "but the multiplayer is amazing"

but the multiplayer is amazing. Well h1/h2 were easily the best multiplayer games (you could actually play 1 game on the same map, against the same opponents for 2 hours and still not get bored). Halo3 was solid. Become very stale/stupid after that but 343 seems to be getting everything right so far with h5.

I think i hold halo2 as the best game ever. It had big team battle for the casuals which was always fun, it had casual small games but also a very competitive side. It had a ton of glitches which just meant you played on it longer, finding out about superjumps and exploring the outside of maps etc. Superjumps were the goat glitch to have. The skill level in h2 was insanely high and so much teamwork. it just had everything

Single player on any game is wank. (well apart from last of us, heard thats v.good).

I rarely play multiplayer and I liked all the Halo games I played (1-3)

I did play Halo 1 local multiplayer a lot at uni and it was very very good indeed.

Online multiplayer games are usually shit. apart from Rocket League obviously.

I have to say I don't think I've even completed a single player game other than The Last Of Us.  Really not my bag.

The LAN parties on Halo1 were amazing! Then when Halo2 came out with Xbox Live it changed the gaming industry imo.  Well,  specially for consoles.  The amount of hours I must have sunk into H2 is ridiculous.

As Gharperr said,  it looks like they are doing everything right with Halo5, I've got a feeling it's going to be awesome.

Even the campaign is designed to be played as a 4 player co-op campaign with your mates.  Will be really interesting to see how that all works!

I feel like a lot of people feel the way you do.

It saddens me. Single player gaming is being pushed more and more into the background.

I just find it all a bit boring.  I get no satisfaction out of beating the AI.  But there's something very satisfactory about beating another human.  I tried to play the new Witcher game and I was just bored after 5 minutes.  If I'm not gaming with friends im just not interested. Tackling a game by myself is just no fun to me,   I guess I enjoy the social aspect of gaming just as much as the game itself.

My problem is I generally don't beat other humans at games. So for me that's much less enjoyable.

And single player gaming isn't really about beating the AI. Sports games maybe. I'd much rather play FIFA or Rocket League vs a human than the AI.

But the best one player games aren't really about "beating" the AI. It's about beating the game.

Two Betrayals co op was a hoot. Some of the levels in 3 were fun too. The one that started with you by the sea next to a hostile anti aircraft tank was great. Good mechanised battles.

Main reason I got a PS4 over an Xbone; better single player titles. The focus does seem to be on online multiplayer nowadays, but then you get the studios like Naughty Dog that specialise in providing a stellar single player campaign with a fantastic story and just tack on an online multiplayer element as the afterthought. Rocksteady and whoever did the new Tomb Raider are another couple of examples of big studios putting the single player and story front and centre. I wish there were more but I don't think it's all doom and gloom either.
