  1. Any idea what pub Villa fans are heading to pre game? Fitting in the game with a work trip
  2. Ridiculous comparison - Kante is not even in the same league as Whelan ?
  3. 1. We do need their money. 2. You want us to get relegated playing more attractive football which will leave us needing more investment to get promoted again. Please see point 1
  4. I haven't felt this good about supporting Villa in years
  5. When he was getting results I could tolerate the poor performances. Now that we aren't I'm very close to turning against him. Unfortunately I don't think our next 2 games will be any better. Only thing that could (I hope) save Bruce is the Jan window. But that was desperate to watch.
  6. We've 2 holding mids but our defense has zero protection. Very poor
  7. I like the look of this. I don't see the point of weakening other positions too e.g. Bree, Grealish when Elmo and Adomah have been brilliant for us to now. Jedi will give the central defense added protection so Samba shouldn't have as much to deal with as he would with just Whelan there. Hopefully this will give less chances for mistakes.
  8. And that is what a defensive mid should be to the average football fan. It generally means he's doing his job right and allowing the rest of the team to do theirs. Usually when they're not it means they've made a mistake
  9. Playing Hutton is showing the squad if you play well then you keep your place. Reckon Taylor should still have got the nod but can see Bruce's thinking.
  10. Good free or not that has to go down as a mistake by Johnstone. The wall is to cover one side keeper the other. Could let him off the hook if it was a worldie but it wasn't
  11. Very good individual performances mixed with very poor ones. Team still extremely nervous which was easy to see as once we conceded we went to shit. Great to see our resolve though after that. Our team looks better than most teams we've played this year. Just need to get a bit more clinical in the final third. Happy with the result as that's all that matters for now.
  12. I take the point and would usually agree with you. As I said I was against the Terry signing initially. I think it's a calculated gamble though. Hourihane & Lansbury (for example) were signed for minimal outlay and should balance out the lost value in these signings. I know the opposite side of the argument is e.g McCormack but I still think that we've enough to balance the books and buy again next year especially considering some sale fees were delayed til next year. That's a matter of opinion though. We weren't in the position to take chances this summer. We'll obviously only be able to judge whether it was a success in hindsight.
  13. No my point was that he was a safe pair of hands while the club (Round, Wyness et al) decided what the Villa way would be. I would hope that at the end of the season, promotion or not, we would have done sufficient work in the 2 years since Xia took over to have established what this Villa way or playing, recruiting etc is. Maybe it will take longer than 2 but I hope not. As I said in another post if Bruce is the 'Villa way' long term on the playing side of things, then we're in trouble but short term, I think he's the right man until the Villa way is established in the background. Again these players are the short term part of a longer term plan. It's a risk averse initial strategy. You knew what you're getting with those players. We disagree on the VFM aspect fair enough, but there was no one for the younger lads to look up to bar say Jedinak in the squad (Gabby says hi). I think that we will reap the rewards of these signings longer term but it will be hard to quantify an exact monetary amount. If our younger players e.g. Davis green o'hare etc come through and make the grade we are effectively rebuilding our squad,. I think they will only be made better by having the Terrys etc around the place (increasing sell on value, better chance of promotion etc) which can only be a good thing.
  14. I was against the Terry signing at the time but I've changed my mind in the months since. I think it's a worthwhile investment as opposed to an investment in potential. For Whelan you knew what you were getting. I would have liked someone else (and cheaper) but can see the logic. They are both what I would class as 'safe' signings. Clearly the club are pursuing a 'risk averse' strategy until the parachute payments run out. You pay a premium for this though I don't think that either break the bank. Sure we got 5m for Westwood to put it in perspective.
