  1. Looking forward to Matty Cash's first tackle on Grealish. Should be an absolute belter!! Not sure if Jack will even get up afterwards. I have a mental picture of it.....glorious!!
  2. It's all gone quiet on the new kit....has nobody found that special pallet yet??!!
  3. Senderos has just shown us his outstanding ability for France's 4th goal. Even Baker would've hot something on that.
  4. What was going on after Gabby scored the goal, he ran towards the bench followed by most of the team and they all pretty much ignored Lambert to go and celebrate with someone on the bench. Looked like Lambert got a few half hearted high fives but most of the players seemed to ignore him. Am I reading too much in to this or have the players had enough of the manager? Who did Gabby go to on the bench?
  5. Baker was an absolute warrior today, MOTM for me!! Vlaar and Clarke were strong too but thought Lowton wasn't up to it. Zog was good, was responsible for both of our goals, great free kick but did drift in and out a of the game a bit. Delph was frustrating...did some great stuff but often pushed the ball too far ahead of himself and ended up losing it or having to make 50/50 challenge to get it back. Weimann should have scored but he worked hard the whole time he was on. Bowery looked a little lost to me and I think Gabby would have made a big difference if he was available. Thought Guzan had a strong game today too. Was absolutely convinced that we were going to let it slip in the last few minutes but well done to the lads for hanging on! UTV
  6. WTF is going on with the blue on the home shirt, it looks like a shop sample that's been left in the window too long and has faded. Completely different colour to the socks which is what I would consider to be closer to the correct blue. As for that feckin collar, just take the scissors to it! I do like collars, especially on the 81 shirt which is a pure classic, but this is a piece of shit. As for the shorts they just look plain stupid with short side panel. Oh well I suppose the good news is it won't be displayed in shops anywhere in my part of the world. On a positive note I quite liked the away shirt!
  7. Please don't let it be anything like that Leeds kit....bloody awful.
  8. Maybe Lerner is a sneaky, sly little bastard and has been lining up Pep Guardiola for the past 12 months. He brings in the ginger clearing in the woods to get rid of some high profile high paid players, make the rest of the higher paid players look like crap and get everyone believeing that we are shite only to sack McMuppet and mastermind the arrival of Guardiola, followed closely by Iniesta, Xavi, Alves & Messi and a 100 million pound transfer kitty.......or maybe not!!!
  9. Prior to Nike the kit was by Hummel and I quite liked the 04/05 & 05/06 shirts, but I sure couldn't find a Villa shirt in Melbourne, Sydney, or Brisbane at that time, and I was travelling to Australia frequently back then. Lets make this clear....I am not pro Nike but I am pro a global brand such as Nike, Puma or Adidas because they will get better distribution and therefore Villa's profile will be better.
  10. I share your desire for AVFC to be a global brand and for our shirts to be sold in every corner of the globe. But I live in Leicester and walk into my local JJB and Soccer Sports and can find maybe 4 tucked away home Villa shirts. The fact is, big teams have their shirts in shops because they win games, floating around mid to lower table we won't be a global brand for a very long time.
  11. One of the biggest issues with going with a brand like Macron is the lack of global availability and visibility of Aston Villa shirts. Macron is small relatively unknown brand on a global scale which means they will not get the global distribution such as brands like Nike, Adidas, Puma and to a lesser extent Umbro. Since Villa have been supplied by Nike there has been a much bigger profile for the club in countries such as New Zealand (where I live), Australia, Singapore & Canada, just to name a few. This is purley because the brand of shirt gets them into the large mainstream sports stores. I have seen a lot more people wearing Villa shirts during my travels over the past few years and it is down to that fact that there are only a limited number of football club shirts available in a lot of these stores. People see a shirt, they might like it, they buy it, then they find out about the club and become fans (albeit sometimes only for a short time). The Villa brand is extremely important and should be marketed globally at every opportunity to increase support and ultimately revenues through shirt sales and peripheral merchandise. With the Macron deal it is unlikely that you will see a Villa shirt for sale in the Southern Hemisphere (unless it is a dodgy knock off) because Macron lack the marketing strength and distribution to get shirts into this half of the world. What does this mean for Villa? It means loss of revenue from shirt sales and little or no profile in one of the fastest growing regions both economically and in population. My son was proud to go in to a sports store over here with hs Villa shirt on and see it hanging on the racks. This won't happen again for along time as we will not see a Villa shirt in a NZ sports store unless we get one of the big brands making our shirts. Unfortuntaley that means we could miss a generation of people looking for a football shirt and deciding on an Arsenal, Man Utd & City, Newcastle, Spurs or Liverpool because they are the shirts available and our shirts are no longer. This is a huge error in the marketing of Aston Villa and a potentially long term financial mistake. Do you think we will get any more rich Asian sponsors on our shirts when they realise that they can't even buy the shirts in half of the world anymore? I think not.
  12. I would take Moyes in a heartbeat. Knows how to get players motivated, good with young players, seems to unearth a few talents as well and is good with his transfer money. We should be making him priority summer signing IMO.
  13. Hogg spent half the game on his arse... go back and watch it again! His tackling was woeful and probably 70% of his passes went backwards. Young ponced around the field trying to look pretty on the ball and got a few free kicks. He never looked that threatening and unless I'm mistaken your "star player" should be threatening, score goals or be the provider and he didn't do any of that for me.
  14. We were very poor and on the balance of play lucky to get a win. I thought Heskey was excellent, he worked tirelessly both up front and getting back to help the defence. Our midfield was terrible today. Bannan had one his worst games since making the 1st team and Hogg was average at best. Who the hell has been teaching these guys to tackle??? The number of times they went down on their arses and got beaten was a joke. The first thing your taught when defending is stay on your feet and we were woefully inept at this basic skill, diving in and committing to the tackle when their was bugger all chance of winning the ball. Downing had another great game tonight was my MoM with Heskey close behind. Ashley Young is NOT a central player and he is a major issue for me. Young is at his best when he is playing wide and getting balls into the box or cutting in from wide and having a shot. Since he has moved more central he is far less effective. He is not strong enough to hold the ball up centrally, doesn't run off a big striker effectively, rarely scores these days and can't tackle so why is he there? I would rather see him on the left wing with Downing in the middle alongside Bannan, Reo-Coker and Albrighton in a 4-5-1. Anyway, here are my ratings: Friedel - 5 - Average performance and need to improve Lichaj - 5 - Not a bad game but needs to concentrate for 90 mins Collins - 6 - Much better game today Cuellar - 6 - Did okay for first game back in some time Warnock - 6 - Did a lot better today Downing - 8 MOTM - Excellent, worked hard, used the ball well and was always a danger Bannan - 4 - Bad night tonight, looked tired and was a little slow Hogg - 3 - Awful tackling, crap marking and passing was non-existent Albrighton - 7 - Did well and always looked a threat Young - 4 - Apart from win a bunch of free kicks, pretty much ran around like a chicken without head....and that stupid f...ing snood...what a clearing in the woods! Heskey - 8 - Great game form the big man, worked really hard, had a few bad touches but was really impressed. Reo-Coker - 6 - looked good for the shortv time on Delfouneso - 2 - did nothng and adds nothing Herd - not on long enough to rate
  15. Thought Cuellar was outstanding today and I am not a fan of his at right back. I also thought Carew was immense today and couldnt understand MON taking him off as he was our main goal threat. Gabby for me was awful today, never got into the game and never looked remotely like scoring. I would have taken Gabby off and put Delfouneso on instead off taking Carew off. A Young was good today too with some great crosses. Petrov was agin a 60 minute man. Like most of the games in the second half of the season he just runs out steam and disappears for the last 30 minutes meaning Milner has to work twice as hard. Mon has got to look at replacing Petrov after 60 minutes because he becomes baggage.
