So how do The Mirror do their transfer stories? I imagine it something like the FA Cup draw. In one bowl they have an assortment of players and in the other an assortment of teams and then they just see what comes together.
Quite possibly Jimbojames ^^^
I'd add to that though that Mr Nursey (bluenose anti villa editor guy) who writes most of the nonsense is the main culprit.. if you read his stories carefully (not that i see them anywhere other than on these boards of course) he always has a "put down" comment about Villa in there somewhere. I.E. in this particular story he puts "desperately try to hang onto their best players" & in another story he put "MON begged Ashley Young to stay".... Very belittling comments which make it look as though we are some poxy little outfit who nobody wants to play for...
Scary thing is how he is allowed to get away with this negatively biased reporting towards his clubs bitter rivals on such a grand scale! Do his bosses not see this? |

When I first heard this story, I have to admit that I thought it may be a decent deal. Once a player is over 30, it will be more and more difficult with each passing transfer window to make some kind of financial return on them, and right now £7m for Petrov seems pretty fair. He doesn't have the best stamina in the team, I think we can all accept that, and that is only going to get worse from here on out.
However, I do think that Petrov is amongst our best players and I'm not sure if for similar money we could really get someone better, considering the sorts of money we tend to throw around for players like Sidwell and Reo-Coker. I don't think Flamini would be interested in joining us, and he's the only candidate I can think of who would be a really good signing in the position that we could afford. I think that when we do come to replace Petrov, the importance of his role will mean we need to make a substantial bid for a really excellent player. A £5m stop-gap player is just going to eat up wages and so since we are unlikely to get any better, we should let Petrov have a few more years here and wait until we have the money to properly replace him. |

No point selling Petrov, he is a good player. Personally, I think he would work best, either in a 4-5-1 as the holding midfielder where he would excel as you dont need legs there, it's all about positional sense which he is good at, or if we are playing two in the centre, play him with NRC.
Something like -
.............NRC........Petrov..........
New signing/
Albrighton.................Downing..
................Young........................
...............Agbonalhor................. |

| £7M is an awful lot of money for a player his age, perhaps more than Plop can afford |

| Petrov is arguably worth not much more than 7 mill given his age. To us though he is worth far more than that and we certainly wouldn't find a suitable replacement for that kind of money. |

£7m? Nah.
No point making our best central midfielder become Liverpool's best central midfielder for that money. |

| Yep, because the signing of 30 year old Stylian Petrov is really going to convince El Nino to stay at the club?! |

What a stupid post.

let me give you the point of view of a villa player...yes player, who sees, trains and plays with himday in and day out:
when some friends of mine met fabian delph in a birmingham nightclub (last season before he got injured) one of them them told him he should be playing instead of petrov because petrov is shit etc, and started talking all the bollox some people on here who also dont know what they're talking about usually come out with...slow, doesn't score enough etc..
Delph ordered him to get down and give him 20 press ups because it was such a ridiculous comment. delph said that petrov was 'the best player at the club', and we would be nowhere without him and his midfield calm and control. he went on and on apparently and i wasnt there so cant convey his whole argument but this is a young and exciting footballer trying to takemake a name for himslef in petrov's position so surely his opinion is worth its weight in gold in this argument? case closed?
The problem with what Delph said is that he's not been asked "Could we replace Petrov with someone better & younger for £7m or less?"..
Petrov is, in my opinion, the only central midfielder in our team who can slow our play down and control the game from the midfield. However, does that mean that he's irreplacable? No.
If Liverpool did offer £7m for Petrov, which is proably BS, then I'd consider looking around for a replacement and cashing in while he has any resale value.
There have been links to Axel Witsel & Flamini recently. Both would cost less than Petrov, both would have more resale value and, though I haven't seen them play recently, I'm assuming they could keep up with the tempo of the Prem for longer than Petrov.
It's probably nonsense. But Petrov does have his weaknesses as well as strengths. |

| I like Stan. Think he is a good all round holding midfielder and someone you can rely on and who performs steadily every game. I think every team needs a couple of player like this - Friedel/Dunne/Petrov - I see these as the backbone of our team. Bags of experience, don't lose their cool and don't cause any ructions off the field, good solid pro's. His steadying presence I think allows the flair players like Ash to get on with it. |

I like PEtrov. One of our best players certainly.
However, were we to ship him out and bring in Flamini I certainly don't think we'd be worse off.
But that's assuming we're interested in Flamini and Liverpool are interested in petrov, which are two BIG assumptions, if you ask me. |

| First names on the team sheet are Stan, Ash and Milly. It's not surprising that the lying son's of bitches they call mirror sports journalists have finally got round to Stan. The internet's gradually making them all redundant, so honesty and integrity have long gone and stories don't even need a grain of truth any more. |

| While it is good money for a player of his age, he is too good and too important to allow him to leave. As m|1dch says, no point making (one of) our best centre mid Liverpool's best for what isn't huge money in the grand scheme. This is more than just the individual price of the player. |
