VillaTalk.com Messageboard Guidelines

The VillaTalk.com messageboard is for Villa fans to discuss and debate on issues primarily to do with Aston Villa Football Club. These guidelines are in place to keep the messageboard a decent place to be. The moderators retain the right to modify and delete any item should they think it is against the board guidelines. We are not trying to be totalitarian - we just want this to be a place where people act in a civil manner.

This is an Aston Villa fan site. This means that it is for Aston Villa fans. If you have a passing interest in a Villa player, then you may be kept on should you not go off topic - but only Villa topics on this messageboard, please.

If you aren't sure about anything at all, PM a moderator (usually referred to as "mods"). You can do this by clicking on the arrow after their name in the left hand column of the screen.

If you cannot keep within these rules and debate in a sensible manner, your posting privileges may be removed.

  • In all things the decision of the mods is final

  • Please leave moderating to the mods

  • Moderating

Sometimes Moderators may edit posts. Where appropriate, this will be recorded by placing comments in red text. If this happens to one of your posts, do not edit what the moderator has written.

If a moderator writes in red text, they are speaking as a moderator. If they use any other colour, they are speaking as themselves. Mods are people too.

Please avoid using red text in your posts and signatures for this reason.

  • Posting Topics

If you think the topic may have been posted recently, then please do a search on the forums first. When posting news items, please state the source using a short link AND copy and paste the story into the post. Don't just post that "Teamtalk is reporting that Villa are selling xxx" in your hurry to be the first to post the story. If there is already a thread on a certain topic, please post the development of the story within that topic, rather than starting a new thread.

When starting a new topic, make sure the title reflects the subject in an accurate manner. Vague topic titles lead to duplicate threads. Also if starting a thread on "This weekends Games" for example, please include a date, as this makes it more obvious and easier to find at a later date

  • General Krulak's thread is for Q&A, the raising of issues and the passing of info two ways. It is NOT for discussions or banter between posters. Please look to see if your question has already been asked or answered before posting. Gen K has said "Transfer questions are just not going to be answered" - Do not ask. Your post will be deleted.

  • The Club Crest

The club crest is trademarked and copyright. We have been given permission to use the crest on this site by General Krulak.

  • Signatures

Please try to keep your signatures smaller than the advertising banner in the top right of the page. If it is slightly bigger, please do what you can so that it does not stand out - keep backgrounds to pale colours.

Also, please do not use signatures as a way of annoying/continuing arguments with other posters.

  • Stay On Topic

Please keep things on topic - that means in the relevant forum and thread. If one thread exists with the same/similar subject, please post in that rather than creating a whole new thread.

  • Smilies

Posts consisting solely of smilies, or of a quote plus smilies will be deleted.

  • Quoting from other sites

Always include a link to the original story.

  • English and Netiquette

The main language of this forum is English - no other languages, please! We have a lot of foreign Villans, and bizarrely this rule is aimed more at the English speaking guys. NO 'txt speak' - it is "and" not "n". It is "you", not "u"... etc etc. Please use at least the basic grammar rules - full stops and capital letters please! I know this sounds like you are back at school, but we want to be able to read what you have written! Here is a basic guide to grammar.

  • Links

Do not just place a link to an article, paste the article and include a link to the original.

When linking please use the messageboard code for links. To use the messageboard code, do this:
    Code:
     [url=address of link]Link Name[/url].

If you have problems with this, please visit the "Testing" forum.

  • Posting For Effect (PFE)

Posting For Effect (PFE) will be spotted and repeated PFE will end up in a banning. There is no point in signing up just to wind up fellow Aston Villa fans.

  • Swearing

Swearing is not acceptable. Please consider that children read this site and moderate your language as you normally would in front of them. Repeated swearing will ultimately get you a ban.

  • Flaming

Flaming is not acceptable. As is creating points just to argue - say what you mean - not something that is intended to wind other people up. No Keyboard Warriors please.

  • Insults

Insults are not acceptable. Keep personal vendettas and insults out of this messageboard, please. Simple. Think before you post. When posting make sure you post on the comment, not the person. Continual personal attacks or comments on a poster and not the post content will result in posting privileges being revoked. There is no excuse for personal attacks. If you do not like this website, do not post threads about it. They will be deleted.

  • SPAM

Please don't advertise your stuff on these boards. Adverts will be deleted. If you wish to promote something or wish to buy advertising space, PM limpid for permission. This includes ebay auctions.

  • Aliases

Aliases are not permitted. Stick to the one account. We'll find out if you have more than one account - and promptly ban both of them.

  • All Ages

Please remember that this website is read by all ages - so keep your images suitable for any one.

  • NSFW

This isn't a porn site. Please mark any potentially unsafe threads as Not Safe For Work (or NSFW) in the title.

  • Agree to Disagree

Obviously discussions can lead to disagreements. However, it gets boring if the argument spans over several pages and repeats over the same points.

  • Front Page Articles

We may reproduce any of your postings on the front page.

  • Defamation/Libel

This forum is subject to libel laws so please refrain from unfounded accusations against any public figures. If you are unsure then it is probably best not to post it.

  • Repeat Offenders

If you are continually being banned and/or abusing members, you will be reported to your ISP for abuse of the account.

  • Private Messaging & Sigs

If you use the private messaging or signature feature to abuse members, then you may have your PM privileges turned off and/or your posting privileges revoked. If you feel you have been abused through PM, then do not reply to the message and let a moderator know - we will then verify the claim and deal with it accordingly.

  • Donations

Donations made towards the site's running costs are much appreciated and purely voluntary, but will not be taken into consideration if you break these posting guidelines.

The minimum donation to access user benefits (like changing themes and removing adverts) is £10. Only your last donation will be considered. A donation remains "current" for one calendar year.

  • Premier League fixture lists

It is forbidden to reproduce a list (more than 1) of Premier League fixture for ANY club on this forum. This is due to the fixtures being the intellectual property of the Premier League. It's ridiculous, but it's the law.

This guideline does not apply for season 2010/2011. VillaTalk has been given permission to use the fixtures by Aston Villa FC.

  • Avatars
When choosing your avatar all we ask is that you choose an appropriate one. One that does not contravene any of the site guidelines. That is to say it must not be libellous, it must not be racist, inciteful or inflammatory. It must also be "safe for work". If you choose an inappropriate avatar then we will remove that priviledge.

  • Trading Match Tickets
Under the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994, it is offence to tout (ie. buy or sell) tickets for designated football matches in a public place. As this site might be considered to be a public place we require that tickets are offered or requested for no more than face value (+ booking fee + postage). We will not allow inflated postage to disguise prices.

If you are not sure, then check with a mod before you post. Adverts must only appear in the appropriate "ticket" thread in the Matchday forum. You will be banned if you post an advert for tickets which breach these guidelines.

Buyers should be aware that tickets for most games are clearly marked "non-transferable", so may not be valid after being traded.

I've started some instructive stickies in the "Testing" forum about avatars and short links. If you want others writing, please PM me.
