Gaztonvilla gives us his view on the Chairman and recent events:
We didn’t sign any new players on transfer deadline day. Villa fans sat hopefully in front of Sky Sports News waiting for Jim White to shout in his annoying Scottish accent about BIG NEWS FROM ASTON VILLA. The big news of the day from Villa Park was that Kevin MacDonald had talked things through with his girlfriend and, unlike David Unsworth, had decided he quite liked the idea of first team duty at Bodymoor Heath.

Yes it was a little reminiscent of that yesterday. A third of the possession, 4 corners to their 18 but it is goals that win matches and the only goal of the game was ours and took us into the top four with only Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United standing above us.

It was a clear case of déjà vu last night as we were knocked out of Europe for the second successive year by the same team in front of our own fans at Villa Park. Once again we missed a penalty and fell victim of a late goal but this time they did not need the away goal rule to go through to the group stage as the late goal was followed by another just 3 minutes later.

There they were, two Villa players from the past 5 years, both England Internationals celebrating the opening goal against a Top 4 side and then going on to win comfortably 3-0, but they were both in the wrong coloured shirts. How did it come to this?

Warning, this article contains a whole bunch of disgruntlement, but I've been thinking about the soon to be confirmed transfer of James Milner and the incoming of Stephen Ireland and a number of things want saying.

Villa & City look to have finally managed to come to an agreement over the protracted transfer of James Milner to Eastlands. Stephen Ireland and a big wad of cash are coming the other way.

If you had the chance to swap owners with Man City, to rewrite history would you? What would we gain and what would we lose?

Usually when any manager leaves a football club, some or most of the squad he leaves behind come out in the press and say how they are sad or upset that he is leaving. Yet here we are 4 days after Martin O'Neill walked out on Aston Villa Football Club and there seems to be a distinct lack of mourning at Villa Park.

After 4 years, Martin, Steve and Robbo have resigned from their jobs at our Club. In the near future other people will be appointed to fill the vacancies, perhaps from within the existing staff, perhaps from outside. Yesterday is gone, tomorrow is soon upon us.
What did you make of the last 4 years? Why did they go? What happens next?

Valencia head up to Manchester City for their second game in 24 hours after this one and may have Milner hitching a lift with them on the team bus!

Football has changed for me, I find myself dreaming about contracts and revenues not headers and volleys, ones and zeroes not hopes and heroes – money has moved the heart of football and I wonder when we might see it move back. I want to know where we are as a club, how we got here and where we might end up.

There's an interesting discussion on the message board about excitment levels as we go into the new season. It struck a chord with me, because it's something that I've been pondering for a while. Here's my thoughts.

You’ll no doubt have seen the pictures of the shirt launch in the city centre and at The ICC yesterday and I’m sure we’ve all got an opinion on the shirts. What you won’t have seen was the work the club did behind the scenes or the way the club dealt with the press, the fans and one lucky Villatalk member.

Our two worst home performance in the league were our first and last of this season. We won just 8 of 19 home games where the top 4 won from 14 – 17 of theirs and we also drew 8 to make it 25 points dropped at Villa Park compared to only 20 away. The figures show that our home form cost us fourth and but for already doomed Hull’s point against Liverpool today we would have ended the season seventh.

So, the last away game of the season, and an "eliminator" against Manchester City. The game started really well from Villa's perspective. But then....

Last night saw Tony McAndrew’s young charges take on Chelsea in the first leg of the FA Youth Cup at Villa Park. A big game for the youngsters and a chance to emulate the class of 2002, how would they fair under the bright lights of Villa Park?
