Graham Burke

Seems to be liked by PL and getting a lot of game time in pre season. Obviously made his first team debut last yr, but could really play more this season, maybe even moved ahead of Bowery.

So what type of player is he? I've only seen him in Next Gen final and first half tonight.

Still a little early to say on Burke - he certainly needs to mature physically to get by in the Premier League but I can't knock his effort tonight playing alongside Gabby, Weimann and Benteke.

To write him off this soon into his career is as silly as saying Ethan Moore will be World Class...

Won't make it here, not good enough

He deserves a shot just like the rest of them. Also, he wouldn't have got a new 2 year deal if the club didn't think that he had potential.

Don't think he is good enough or ever likely to be, decent on the ball but isn't very aware of what is going on around him. He might develop that side of his game, we shall see.

I think I'm inclined to agree at this stage. Though I'm surprised to hear you say his awareness is his main weakness. I have always thought it not too bad.

For me his downfall is that his "weapons" i.e. his skill and technique are not big enough to make a real impact against the top end defenders he'll face in the Premier League.

You could see an example last night when he got one on one down the right hand side with their full back. He gave it a few jinks this way and that but couldn't really get himself the space he needed to cross let alone go buy the man.

He's still got time of course to develop but I think a number of others are better placed than him to break through.

When I've watched him, I've never seen a player have to take so much direction from the bench. They literally have to tell him where to go and he seems to show very little initiative in that respect.

On the ball he is pretty good but you could see last night that he isn't really sure what to do with it. There were a couple of the instances that you mention, he ended up trying another turn or a shot which got blocked away. At no point did he try to manufacture space for a shot, he realised he couldn't dribble any further so tried to have a crack because there was no other option. Unless he improves his awareness, distribution and general football know how he will not make any impact here, the reason he has a new deal is because he might crack it and with his ability on the ball be a useful weapon.

Compare his performances to Callum Robinson who looks comfortable and far more aware at this level in his preseason performances.

Yep I think Callum has the better chance at this point

Been stalking my posts packoman? Johnson has a lot more potential than Burke that is for sure

 Not at all. I just thought it was a bit unfair that you're not going to give Burke a chance to prove himself, despite the club giving him and Johnson the same chance. You've definitely seen him play more than me so you could be right and he won't be good enough, but I don't think he should be written off before he's had a chance to prove himself around the first team.
