Seems reasonable to start a thread on this lot.

Let's see how Moyes handles the Sideshow Bob-esque shoes he has to fill. Personally I don't think he'll manage and I can't see them winning the league this season. In fact if I had to guess I'd say they'll be 3rd behind Chelsea & Citeh. I also think Moyes' defensive approach to football will not go down well with their fans.

I think they will finish 3rd and probably win one of the cups. Be interesting to see how he fares in europe, probably will get through the group stages and get knocked out in the first knock out round.

Hope they go down, but honestly its hard to predict this one. They will never win the league this year, but they will probably end up in the top 4.  The pressure is gonna be immense if things get tricky in the beginning

I'd agree with all of that and also throw in the fact that I don't think Ferguson's continued presence at the club will be the help that it may appear. It would have probably be better for Moyes if he had gone entirely and just given him steers unofficially.

That said, I can think of hundreds of thousands (millions?) of reasons why he has hung around.

I've had a theory a few years now about the psychological effect of Fergie, and how his mere presence has helped some distinctly average Man U sides win certain matches.

I certainly think the old cliches about most of the match being played 'in the mind' and 'beaten before the first kick' came into play when he was around. The influence (read fear factor) he had over refs will be lost too.

Hopefully the aura has dissipated and we can get a few points off them now and again. That would be nice wouldn't it?

Agree with this 100%. As the old man said to me a few weeks ago 'would you like to try and work all day with old bacon face perched on your shoulder?'

Think they'll have a difficult few years, difficult in the fact that I don't think they'll be competitive in Europe and may have a few years of finishing 3rd/4th. Just can't see Moyes lasting too long, just too many young fans, globally that don't know anything but success and simply won't understand the concept of transition and the pressure will be too much for the board. I'm also cynical that they actually have the money to buy the likes of Fabregas, which is why they are making the deal so public, just to appease fans.

When was the last time we beat these clearings in the woods at VP?

Was it when we beat them 3-1 on the opening day of the season? Draper and Yorke scored for us and I think a very young Beckham scored for United.

Cant remember who else scored for us that day.

Think that was the last time?

I cant help wondering if they may have wrapped up the Thiago and Fabregas deals if SAF was there.

Yep, last meaningful victory.

We did beat them in the Worhtington cup 3-0 in 99, but it was pretty much their second string.

Interestingly Bozzie was in goal for them.

This is so true. In terms of individuals I don't think Manchester United have had the best squad since the 08/09 season, since then I think Chelsea and after that Man City have had better squads, yet the presence of Fergie has inspired the players and scared the refs. For that reason I think Man United will slip slightly but I still think they will challenge for everything. I think whoever took over would struggle even if it was Mourinho. Mourinho knows directly following Fergie would be a struggle, so he took the Chelsea job, but I still think he has his eye on Moyes job.
