He takes a hard line with negotiations which can backfire sometimes. Most famously when they held out selling Berbatov to Man U but didn't leave themselves time to get a replacement and went on that disaster run at the start of the season. They seem to have missed out on a few targets because Levy won't stump up the money and I bet he is wishing he'd just let Bentley go earlier on rather than paying his whole contact and having him go on a free.

On the other hand they have a solid side and have finished 4th or 5th a few seasons in a row which is about as well as a team like Spurs can do so you would have to say he's been a success with his approach.

He has done OK no question but people are making him out like he is the Yoda of football chief executives/chairman. The amount of bad players he paid cash for like Bentley and some woeful out of place managers like Santini, Ramos think he appointed Hoddle as well;

some Villa fans make Levy sound like a guru while Faulkner is just a muppet

Levy has definitely made mistakes. And big ones. Chief among which was failing to buy a striker for £20m in this season's January window when they were knocking on the door of 2nd place, never mind 4th place. That failure to invest has cost them far far more than the £20m it would have cost. Arsenal's good run would have been in vain and Spurs would be buying much better players than are now rejecting them. Levy has an aura amongst Spurs fans. He is a very good chairman. One of the best. But this notion that Spurs will 100% always 'win' in any deal they do is just infuriating patronising bollocks.

we also got Wayne Routledge for a steal but manager wouldnt use him. Look at him now he is playing regularly for one of leagues most entertaining teams

Wouldn't have got in our side t the time though.

Don't mind the club. Can't stand the fans. I find their insecurity about how 'big' they are turns into arrogance.

Spurs have won this and this. We finished fourth you know! We are a big club. Bigger than you etc etc.

Then you mention how Arsenal can be shit for half a season and still finish above them, and they really get upset.

Muppets.

Still, I don't mind the club itself.

maybe but we still criminally underused him. he was an option from the bench or could have played a few games to rest Young up. pity the manager wasnt fond of either :( same could be said of Maloney actually

A few massive assumptions in there BOF.

Hardly leaps of faith though. Of course we can never know. But better players will usually get you better results. Their own fans acknowledge they've a crap strikeforce and have been screaming out for a striker. They had the chance to do so in January from a position of strength. Then what happes? Bale gets injured. The makeshift striker goes missing and they ship points to beat the band. The rest is (Wenger's) history.

No I'd call them massive assumptions.

Just spending money when in position of strength doesn't automatically guarantee maintaining or improving form, remember Asprilla? Spurs strike force should have been better when they signed Adebayor but it wasn't and it is far too simple to suggest Spurs would have got 4th if they had signed a striker but the reality is it isn't as simple as that and you appear to be saying had they signed a striker Arsenal wouldn't have caught them.

Besides that you are assuming it was down to Levy that they didn't which is again a fairly large assumption in itself.

I actually agree with your conclusion on Levy and you are right he has certainly made some bad mistakes, I just don't think you picked a good example, there are far more clear cut mistakes that can be levelled against him.

I'm curious though, who are these players rejecting Spurs? I've not really seen that so I'm curious what I've missed.

Levy like everyone makes mistakes but I think he is an extremely good chairman and I would have loved him to have been running our club these last 7 years on Randy's behalf, had he been doing so I rather suspect things would have been quite different.
