Villa Park to be used as a rugby stadium

IMO a pitch of our quality wont have any lasting problems from just a couple of rugby matches, plus we should remember the origins of the club and that the first half of football Aston Villa ever played was rugby code. If Old Trafford is going to host so should Villa Park.

Edit: I forgot to mention: Potential funds for the club for upgrades, increased business for the surrounding area and perhaps people who wouldn't usually go to Villa Park getting a feel for the place and wanting to come back.

most kicking takes place with tees now rather than slamming the heel of the boot into the ground and twisting to place the ball. so really it is only the scrums which may cause extra wear to the pitch, i cant imagine the tackling and running would be any worse and the diving? well bale will be coming to villa park later this season so it will see lots of action there.

as mentioned though, it may bring flash backs of the ginger gibbon and his prefered tactics

the plus sides will be rugby fans coming to a football ground which they might not previously have done and enjoying the facilities and then wanting to know more about the club, media interest, the club being shown all around the world providing extra revenue from advertising at the event and possibly after the event

hopefully we would host games better than holland v iceland, we need a NZ or Aussie or South Africa game, we wont be getting an England game, because they will always be in London as we all know, London IS England and everywhere else is a stop off on your way to England... i mean London

The ground staff did a great job of getting the pitch ready in time for the new season after the Take That shows, I'm sure they would do likewise again if the ground was used for Rugby.

The publicity (and possible revenue) the ground/club would get can only be beneficial to us.

Agree with brummybloke though in that the ground would need to host a top tier team like NZ, South Africa or Australia (even Argentina) for it to be worth it I reckon.
