This game really looks like it could be one of the best games ever made for PlayStation 3. I hope there is more free will/choice in how you go about surviving a mutant infected city.

Seen the trailer a few weeks ago and it looked pretty good. Watched the gameplay trailer now and i think i'll finally have to dust the PS3 off for this.

Nothing like Uncharted except from the same developer, half the Uncharted team started work on this after Uncharted 2 whilst the other worked on 3. It look's much smoother than Uncharted, the shooting looks much better and animations too.

No. It's got elements of Uncharted, the climbing stuff and interacting with the environment, but it's less Indiana Jones and more 'The Road', survival gameplay, 2 or 3 enemies being a genuine 'could easily be killed here' encounter as opposed to Uncharteds run around with 20 guys shooting you and spraying bullets all over the shop.

Looks like the best enemy AI I've ever seen, they seem to react to absolutely everything you do. It does look like it plays like uncharted but uncharted 2 is hands down one of the best games this generation so thats no bad thing. You don't need to be 100 percent original to make a great game

I adore any and all post-apocolyptic media, whether it be book, movie, or indeed game. This ticks just about every box for me, and as a massive fan of the Uncharted series I'm sure I'll love it regardless of it's setting.

What I did find interesting in that regard is the very purposeful design decision to make a post-apocolyptic environment which is not all greys and blacks. This environment had a lot of green, which makes me wonder as to the plot and the scenario that sets the game up. At the same time though they've kept the staying alive part pretty brutal, and despite that I don't think there can be too many comparisons drawn to I'm Alive, even though that game was very much like Uncharted in parts. That was just grim, man. This looks fun :)

Ever since The Last of Us was revealed this past December, gamers have been flooded with questions. As a PlayStation 3-exclusive title from the Sony-owned studio Naughty Dog, expectations are exceptionally high. And like Naughty Dog's famous Uncharted series, The Last of Us seems to be character and plot-driven.

We've met the game's main characters, we know that a virus has mutated most of the world's population and destroyed the world as we know it, and we know that the game takes place in a post-apocalyptic setting. But now, thanks to a video posted on Game Informer, we have more detail than ever about the game's plot, how things begin, and what the situation is for both Joel and Ellie as your adventure unfolds.

"The story takes place 20 years after this apocalyptic event happens," Creative Director Neil Druckmann explains. He goes on to talk about what we already know and what we've already figured out; society is breaking down as a result of a deadly virus. Though the government is falling apart, the military has created quarantine zones that act as sparse safe havens for uninfected survivors. Druckmann goes on to note that even the quarantine zones begin to fall apart over time, however, as supplies run low, people start losing their minds, and the infected start infiltrating them, whether intentionally or otherwise.

Ellie's in trouble, and needs to escape the Quarantine Zone.

"Our story picks up in one of the last remaining quarantine zones," Druckmann goes on. Martial law rules the day, and any infraction -- even minor ones -- result in immediate execution. The quarantined city the game begins in is split up into various, heavily-guarded sections, and scanning for the infected happens constantly. "If you scan positive for infection," he notes, "you're taken off to the side and euthanized."

Joel is then touched upon by Naughty Dog. Described as being in his 40's, Joel knows what the world looked like before it was devastated. Over time, he's begun to become less bound by morality and more bound by doing whatever's necessary to survive. "What he wouldn't do in the past is almost a daily occurrence at this point," Bruce Straley, the game's director, notes.

A "black market" within the quarantine zone is what Joel calls home. And while there, he's tasked with a job. While he usually deals in "contraband," such as illicit drugs, illegal weapons and more, this job requires him to "smuggle" a young girl out of the city. That young girl is Ellie, who we were first introduced to when the game was revealed for the first time with that beautiful trailer. Why is she being smuggled out? "That's something we're not ready to talk about," Druckmann admits.

Joel's gotten more than he bargained for.

"All she knows is this one quarantine zone." That's a scary thought, but it's Ellie's reality. Having been born years after the devastation begins, she has no idea what the real world was like. She lives in a military-run orphanage within the confines of the quarantine zone, and has great interest in media from before the fall, such as comic books and music. The producers allude to the fact that the trouble she often gets into at the orphanage hastens the need for her to leave the city.

The thing is, when he and Ellie leave the city, things go badly. Joel is caught with Ellie outside of the city, and worse yet, it seems he'll be unable to return, as he's now wanted by the military. Having made a solemn oath to a friend within the city that he'd look after and protect Ellie, the two move on outside of the city as a team. Joel knows someone outside of the confines of the quarantine zone and looks initially to unload Ellie so he can move on alone.

"Being a Naughty Dog story," Druckmann teases, "things aren't always what they seem."

...we know that a virus has mutated most of the world's population and destroyed the world as we know it

"The story takes place 20 years after this apocalyptic event happens"

Ah man, mutants? Well I don't like the sound of that too much. When I watched the first trailer it bought The Stand to mind, in which events were kind of similar - 99% of the population being killed by a virus. But rather than dying they're being 'mutated'? Not sure how I feel about that. Also 20 years, man thats a long time. I think it was in a docu I saw once, which surmised that without many people around to stop weeds and grass and the like from overgrowing, urban areas would be reclaimed but nature pretty darn quick post-organised civilsation. So I didn't think it'd be that long.

I mean, I know that they have carte blanche to do what they like, it's their post-apocolyptic world and all...but basing it more in reality, and struggling to survive against other aggresive humans would be much better. Mutants are a bit too fantastical for me, in this setting anyway. Also, if no one dies from the virus, and they're all 'mutated'...will they be all wondering around together, like (dared I say it) zombies?

Then again, the mythological and kind of paranormal stuff in the Uncharted series worked pretty well. Apart from those random spirit things at the end of 3, but I'd rather not think about them.

And look at that. Well and truly drawn into the hype machine. Good work Naughty Dog :)

They're basing it off some fungal infection (cordyceps i think) like 28 Days Later meets I Am Legend and mad broccoli infection. They said the focal point is not the 'zombies' but more on the story and relationship development between the dude and the girl and their fight for survival, so I think you'd be happy there!

Well, we'll see. I will not be too enthused if the action is a 50/50 split between survival vs. humans & survival vs. 'zombies'

It gives a quite intense feel if I'm honest. As in I could actually see myself in that kind of scenario and I could feel the anxiety. Really well done.

That said, not getting hyped over it just yet. Need to see moar.
