Cracker1234
It's breaking news on BBC world news. Warnings of a 10 metre high tsunami issued. Edited: They're now saying it's an 8.8 Earthquake and 10 metre high tsunami warning. Pictures don't look good.

The_Rev
Ouch. There was one in Tokyo earlier in the week too, only a small one, but one enough to get mentioned by a guy who lives in Tokyo who I follow on a popular microblogging site. 8.8 is a massive quake though, luckily Japan is the country in the world most equipped to deal with earthquakes, buildings built there have to be quake resistant and the emergency services are well drilled in how to handle them, but 8.8 is scary. I hope casualties are at a minimum. MSNBC reports
The_Rev
Wow, footage of that Tsunami sweeping its way across the Japanese countryside is surreal.
The_Rev
They are saying the quake is 8.9 now. The difference between each point on the richter scale is huge, 8.9 is almost half as powerful again as 8.8 was.

yakulto
Very scary stuff. Was at work in western Tokyo and we all ran out into the car park. The noise of shaking buildings was pretty loud and parked cars were rolling back and forward. Feel for the people of Miyagi though. That tsunami footage was some end-of-days type stuff. Stevo985 Posted March 11, 2011 VT Supporter Share Posted March 11, 2011 Looks awful. BBC website says 8.4 now, but still really bad obviously! Thoughts go out to everyone there, hope that death toll isn't too high.
Wainy316
8.8 is huge, when you consider Chrischurch was in the late 6's. Can't believe the tsunami might reach Hawaii, it's miles away. I guess Korea is safe as the quake was on the other side of Japan. Any reports on casualties?
