Easily my favourite international tournament after the World Cup starts next week in Chile so I thought I would set up a thread

Group A

Ecuador

Bolivia

Chile

Mexico

Group B

Argentina

Paraguay

Uruguay

Jamaica

Group C

Brazil

Colombia

Peru

Venezuela

Some potential cracking games in the group phase and good to see the top teams are bringing practically full strength squads

also for first time since 2004 we have a Villa player participating

Sorry if this question has an obvious answer, but which countries are eligible for this tournament? Jamaica and Mexico not being in South America etc.

It's South America + invite, I believe. Think USA and Japan have entered previously.

Are Brazil even going to bother trying? I find it funny how they never seem to take it all that seriously and the Argies still don't win it.

This is probably one of last chance for this generation in their prime to win something. Messi, Mascherano, Zabaleta, Tevez, Higuain, Di Maria and Aguero will all be in 30s by 2018

though then again is a 100th anniversary Copa America next year in USA

Fancy Colombia to win this. Not a great defence but look at the depth of the forward line...Falaco, Baccan, Teo, Jackson Martinez, James.

Good tournament. I'm away next weekend which is typical as they seem to havw a few games kicking off at 10pm when it starts and then they revert back to 12.30am when I get back.

It's a tough one. Want them to win it for Higuain, don't want them to win it because I dread to think of the hype machine over Messi.

Chile playing a warm up tonight against El Salvador.....Alexis starting having probably jogged over there. Also impressed Marcelo Diaz starts, less than 100 hours after scoring the goal that keep Hamburg up. Probably just about beyond Vidal to play tonight and then fly back for the champions league final! :D

I love the commitment the South Americans show for their country, flying halfway across the world in limited time to play for their nations. If this was an England player he'd have probably pulled out through "exhaustion."

I'm probably in the minority but I've always preferred Argentina as a football nation to Brazil.

Wouldn't have an issue with them winning but Brazil always seem to have their number when they meet directly.

think they always played a more European game with a No.10 playmaker like Riquelme until recently when they have abandoned it and the football is not as great to watch anymore

No they were poor at the World Cup in terms of style of play but Aguero was half broken then and Messi didn't have his best club season so hoping for better this time.

I still think they'll have a chance in 2018, Higuian, Aguero, Messi will still all be only 30 then and really they've not had great back 4s for a while (since days of Ayala, Zanetti, Walter Samuel) so it won't be much different although Mascherano being 34 will probably be a problem given his importance.

I've always loved the out and out strikers they've produced....growing up watching Seria A in the late 90s Batistuta was like a God to me then Crespo then Tevez then Higuain then Aguero..... and now the new generation of Vietto (if he ever gets a call up) and Dybala are starting to filter through.

In that same period Brazil had obviously Ronaldo and Rivaldo who were two of the best around in their era but then a really barren period until Neymar now.

When you look at the midfield playmakers Argies have also produced in the last 20 years they've badly underachieved. Incredible they haven't won an international title since the mid 90s.

Brazil had a better striker but he had too many personal problems sadly,

Copa America 2004 was all about Argentina and Tevez and this guy just destroyed the field
