John Gregory on Villa, Deadly and the FA Cup

Was 12/13 when he came in after Little and always loved Villa under him. I know it wasn't always pretty but there were a lot of good times when he was in charge. I remember being utterly gutted when he left to be honest.

He had an amazing honeymoon period when he first came in, won 9/11 I think only losing oddly enough to relegated teams like Bolton and Barnsley ( ?) I think. Then the following season we were right at the top of the table going into christmas period. Lovely stuff.

Always liked Gregory, you could always tell he cared. Im sure he picked up quite a few fines for post game rants when we lost. Without taking it off-topic you can see some similarities between him and Sherwood

I dont like talking about that final either. Losing 1-0, not turning up, in a shit game, to a terrible goal is possibly the worst way to lose a final.

Probably my worst moment as a Villa fan. We had a really good side, looking back at the team there were a lot of top quality players in the side. The game was terrible and both teams were scared to lose rather than going out and trying to win the game. A mistake was always going to be the difference and Calamity James stepped up with aplomb. I hated Chelsea because of Dennis wise & their scumbag fans and I have hated them even more since.

MBITIOUS Aston Villa are ready to offer Atletico Madrid pounds 8 million for World Cup striker Christian Vieri - plus Stan Collymore.

Villa were on the trail of the Italian striker before he began his goalscoring exploits at France 98. Vieri is the competition's joint leading scorer so far with three goals in Italy's two group matches - and he is being chased by a host of top clubs in Serie A and across Europe.

Villa boss John Gregory, currently on a holiday cruise, has been closely monitoring Vieri's progress with chief scout Peter Withe, who is in France. Gregory believes that powerful striker Vieri has the perfect physique and game to make a huge impact on the Premiership - and he's definitely Villa's No 1 target.

That's certain to spell the end for bad boy Collymore, who will be offered to the Spaniards as part of the deal.

Villa want pounds 5m for Colly but they stand little chance of banking that type of money for their erratic forward. Atletico value Vieri at pounds 12m but are in no hurry to sell their highly prized attacker.

Villa sources suggest that Gregory is desperate to offload Collymore before the season starts and he's so far refused to offer his wayward striker the No 9 shirt for next season.

why I loved Gregory he was ambitious and wanted to sign the very best, if only Lerner had a manager with his ambition in 2006 when he took over

Vieri went for 75 million combined in next 2 summers :D
