NFL Draft 2015 (April 30th - May 2)

DE/OT/WR for Panthers in the first round. Most probably a pass rusher though, it's the only position that Gettleman hasn't at least tried to boost in free agency.

Jim White is covering this for Sky by the way. Jim **** White.

San Diego at 17 is my guess (as long as no Rivers trade happens). I can't see him dropping out the first, especially not past Baltimore and Dallas.

OT for Denver. That statue at the back is not getting any more mobile.

Nose-tackle and linebackers would be nice as well. Could do with a good free safety with Moore gone but as I understand it, it's not a deep safety draft.

I'll be happy with Shane Ray, Amari Cooper, Kevin White, Dante Fowler, Danny Shelton, Todd Gurley, Vic Beasley, Brandon Scherff or La'el Collins. I'd not be as enthusiastic with an o-lineman as I feel we could likely get a good one in the second or third, especially a guard.

Latest rumour is that we plan to take Andrus Peat, plug him in at right tackle and switch Pugh inside. Peat is probably the lineman I don't want the most. Everything I've seen of him suggests he's a below average run-blocker, but a good pass protector. Projects to eventually be a left tackle due to this. I don't like his body type though, he seems too fat and doesn't look tough enough to my (relatively) untrained eye. I'd rather take Ereck Flowers if we plan on taking a tackle. But what do I know?

Here's my first round mock draft, with trades. Bear in mind this could be edited before the draft starts.

  1. Tampa Bay - Jameis Winston, QB, Florida State
  2. Philadelphia (via Tennessee) - Marcus Mariota, QB, Oregon
  3. Jacksonville - Dante Fowler Jr, DE/OLB, Florida
  4. Oakland - Leonard Williams, DL, USC
  5. San Francisco (via Washington) - Amari Cooper, WR, Alabama
  6. New York Jets - Brandon Scherff, OL, Iowa
  7. Chicago  - Danny Shelton, NT, Washington
  8. Atlanta - Bud Dupree, OLB/DE, Kentucky
  9. New York Giants - Kevin White, WR, West Virginia
  10. St. Louis - Andrus Peat, T, Stanford
  11. Miami (via Minnesota) - DeVante Parker, WR, Louisville
  12. Cleveland - Malcom Brown, DT, Texas
  13. New Orleans -  Vic Beasley, OLB/DE, Clemson
  14. Minnesota (from Miami) - Trae Waynes, CB, Michigan State
  15. Washington (from San Francisco) - Arik Armstead, DL, Oregon
  16. Houston - Nelson Agholor, WR, USC
  17. San Diego - Melvin Gordon, RB, Wisconsin
  18. Kansas City - Ereck Flowers, OL, Miami
  19. Cleveland - Breshad Perriman, WR, UCF
  20. Tennessee (from Philadelphia) - Randy Gregory, DE/OLB, Nebraska
  21. Cincinnati - Cedric Ogbuehi, OL, Texas A&M
  22. Pittsburgh - Landon Collins, S, Alabama
  23. Detroit - Eddie Goldman, DT, Florida State
  24. Arizona - Henry Anderson, DL, Stanford
  25. Carolina - D.J. Humphries, OL, Florida
  26. Baltimore - Marcus Peters, CB, Washington
  27. Dallas - Byron Jones, CB, Connecticut
  28. Denver - Cam Erving, OL, Florida State
  29. Indianapolis - Shane Ray, OLB/DE, Missouri
  30. Green Bay - Kevin Johnson, CB, Wake Forest
  31. New Orleans - A.J. Cann, G, South Carolina
  32. New England - Jordan Phillips, DT, Oklahoma

I haven't projected many trades in the bottom half yet as I haven't really taken notice of any rumours with any of those teams, other than Philly.

Can't see mariota ending up in Tennessee, not convinced chargers will risk it, the news guesses seem to have swung the other way too, talks of a rivers extension today, also really don't see Peterson happening so with Matthews gone it's almost definitely a RB, gurley or Gordon, from what I've seen gurley is better, especially in passing but he had knee surgery in November and might not be that effective next year

This La'el Collins business means there will probably be another take off the board by the time the Panthers are on the clock. Trade down is a big possibility now I think.

While I'd love to get Mariota I'm not sure I like the idea of giving up Michael Kendricks, Vinny Curry and especially Fletcher Cox, as well as Bradford and probably more picks.

Daft draft question number 2

Say the Buccaneers get first pick and say we want John Smith ... Can John Smith say hell no I don't want to join the Buccaneers and turn them down ?

See John elway to the colts, manning to the chargers

Elway said he'd quit NFL and play baseball, from what I can remember manning just acted like an utter dick and forced the move

Officially the buccaneers would own his rights so if they refused to trade and he refused to play then no one else would be able to have him, but he'll have visited them and spoken to them so they should have a good idea

For funsies. Really tried my best to work a trade or two in there but I reckon there won't be too much movement (up at the top end of the board anyways)

1. Bucs – Jameis Winston, QB

2. Titans – Marcus Mariota, QB (My guess is that they won't receive a suitable deal and will go with MM)

3. Jaguars – Leonard Williams, DT

4. Raiders – Amari Cooper, WR

5. Redskins – Dante Fowler, DE/OLB

6. Jets – Brandon Scherff, OL

7. Bears – Vic Beasley, OLB

8. Atlanta – Todd Gurley, RB

9. Giants – Andrus Peat, T

10. Rams – Kevin White, WR

11. Vikings – Trae Waynes, CB

12. Browns – Arik Armstead, DT

13. Saints – Vic Beasley, OLB

14. Dolphins – T.J. Clemmings, OT

15. 49ers – Danny Shelton, DT

16. Texans – D.J. Humphries, OT

17. Chargers – Jalen Collins, CB

18. Chiefs – Devante Parker, WR

19. Browns – Eddie Goldman, DT

20. Eagles – Landon Collins, SS

21. Bengals – Ronald Darby, CB

22. Steelers – Malcolm Brown, DT

23. Lions – Jordan Phillips, NT

24. Cardinals – Eli Harold, OLB

25. Panthers – Preston Smith, DE (Really not enamoured by anything I have left here, a trade down would be great but I reckon there's plenty teams willing to move down the order tonight...)

26. Ravens – Shane Ray, DE

27. Cowboys – Melvin Gordon, RB

28. Broncos – Michael Bennett, DT

29. Colts – Ereck Flowers, OT

30. Packers – Eric Kendricks, ILB

31. Saints – Carl Davis, DT

32. Patriots – Randy Gregory, OLB

A lot of people going with Philly getting Mariota at #2, but I think Milfner is probably right. The difference between the TEN and PHI picks (#2 and #20) is basically the equivilent of the #5 pick... Philly are going to have to give up an absolute fortune for the #2 pick, Bradford involved would make sense but even he is incredibly devalued given these last few years of injuries. I'm not sure TEN will be happy with anything they get.

Looking at what the Panthers have left to pick I'm praying someone with a pick early in the second round gets jumpy and trades up. I don't think there will be a OT left with a first round grade by the time we get on the clock (especially seeing as Collins is off the board now). Preston Smith seems a reach. Apparently we're big on Shaq Thompson which I'm not sure about. I hope we're not buying into the hype because he can play on both sides of the ball.
