Aston Villa Review: Episode 113 - recapping March

Aston Villa Review is back after a brief absence, and we were certainly frustrated by the timing of our enforced break. Since the last episode, Aston Villa have been in fine shape, defeating West Bromwich Albion twice to bank their first three points for an age and secure a place in the semi-finals of the FA Cup. Not a bad start to the month, and a 4-0 win at Sunderland was the icing on the cake.

In this week's show we'll take a whistle-stop tour of the whole damned lot including the most recent game, Saturday's 1-0 home loss at the hands of Swansea City. There's also a quick assessment of Tim Sherwood's managerial performance over his first month in charge. We'll be back next week to look ahead to the first knockings of April.

I used to find myself agreeing with nearly everything they said but starting to slightly change.

The whole thing comparing Sherwood to houllier was daft, as was the idea that Sherwood's been given a break from criticism because he's a bit of a lad.

Also didn't MON play gabby as a striker and not a winger?

Chris seems pretty fair but I get the sense Steve just doesn't like Sherwood and is eager for it to go tits up.

Still an enjoyable listen though.

Strangely, the Houllier comparison was something I completely agreed with. I find it a bit strange that Sherwood talks about Spurs all the time and no one seems to mention it, however. when Houllier spoke about Liverpool he go absolute pelters.

I'd quite Sherwood to stop the Spurs talk, it's one thing if he did wonders there but he was there for about 6 months and had an awesome squad of players to choose from.

It annoyed me when O'Leary used to talk about Leeds all the time but as I get older I can kinda see why it happened.   It's about a shared history, at the moment Sherwood has got very little in the way of a history of us but he did the best part of ten years at Spurs as a player, coach and manager.   Over time he will build up a bank of memories with us, the Baggies games and first half against Sunderland are the first examples, and questions about Spurs from journalists or anecdotes about Spurs from Sherwood himself will begin to dry up.

I think it's quite different to the Houllier/Liverpool thing.  The comments following the Anfield game were almost deliberately offensive.

For me I think Tim Sherwood is desperate to talk about past achievements. The fact is he's not been a manager for that long so spurs is the only relevant thing he can talk about.

Nothing he's said comes close to houllier after we lost at anfield.

Pretty much spot on as per.

The Houllier comparison is interesting. I think it's a little harsh to say it's the same yet. As long as Sherwood doesn't go on about Spurs for too long then it won't be the same. He needs to cut it out though as it is grating a bit.

The difference will be that Houllier was loved by Liverpool so after our game there he'd had 90 minutes of adoration from their fans. Sherwood won't get that from Spurs.

But then I'm one of the few who isn't too enamoured with Sherwood's press conferences anyway, but as I've said before they're analysed too much anyway. I'm much more interested in what he says to the players than the press, and so far he seems to be saying mostly the right things.
