omariqy
I downloaded an .mkv file but when I tried to play it on VLC the audio track was missing. I am guessing it is because I don't have the right codec. Does anyone have any experience in how to resolve this issue? FYI I have a Mac.
darrenm
Can't help with the Mac side of things but I know that VLC is monolithic so contains its own codecs. If it won't play something then you can't add anything to make it work, therefore you'll need to find a different player and then maybe the least dodgy looking codec pack you can find. MKV is a container so the audio could be almost anything. You can find out what in VLC by pressing CTRL-J (command-J?) or right-click (command-click?) -> tools -> codec information
Tegis Posted December 28, 2014 VT Supporter Share Posted December 28, 2014 You could try to convert the file to something more apple-ish like with Handbrake, like an mp4 that quicktime handles. https://handbrake.fr/downloads.php When the mkv is loaded you should see the audio-tracks within the container if there is no errors with it to start with
