Assistant manager

I would rather it be someone that has a passion for their role and a talent for being a coach, rather than someone that happens to have been connected with the club in the past (or present).

If a talented coach can get the team firing again, that's all I want. If that person happens to be a Villa man then all the better, but that should not be placed above their abilities in the hiring criteria IMO.

Why do we need a "villa person" ? We need the best quality we can attract

Because we are struggling. People are starting to loose faith in the club. We need someone who will die for the club and inspire people and make them understand just how great this club is. Apart from that JG proved to be a great AM under BL, so even though there might be "better" candidates out there, he is a great choice.

But JG IS a talented coach, and a successful one here with BL.

That;'s an issue and danger for clubs who are struggling or going through a bad patch.  Revert to "one of our own".  I want one of the best and typically that is not nor ever have been someone who is ex villa

Laursen (or anyone that is held in high opinion by our fans) becoming what would basically be a PR guy for Lambert's reign would be the worst case scenario and he'd jeopardise his status by allowing himself to be duped into that.

Preferably just another no-mark like Culverhouse who we'll have no problem offloading alongside the manager when his time finally arrives.

The thing with both of those is that they have been out of top-flight football for so long. JG and BL are clearly Villa men, but when the margins in the top league can be so fine, I'd rather have someone skilled in setting us up tactically and utilise the most modern of training and fitness techniques.

I think the club could also benefit from a fresh-eyed perspective too - someone that has been part of bringing success elsewhere.

This could be a very important appointment. Put Sid in that position and it shows we're happy to bumble along as we are, and that is in no way meant as a slight against Sid.

Bring in a tactical and successful coach, and it couldd make a hell of a difference to our style of play and results.

Well René Meulensteen is a great coach, but I also want someone who think that Villa should be top dog and not just an employer.

This is a game of professionals.  That is what they would strive for

We are an employer though. Ability and professionalism should be the only prerequisites to getting a job here, just as it should at any other club.
