Whats happened to all the el cheapo on line holidays - Ive been using thse for family holidays abroad for 10 years now - I always book early to get a good deal - but now they either seem to want you to phone (past experience - tells me these never give you the screen price) or the likes of lo cost holidays . com On the beach etc - now seem the same prices as Thomas cook ....

Anyone recommend a good cheaper travel agent for next summer ?

Ive used lowcost a few times, in April this year in fact, £220 for 7 nights in the algarve in a 4* hotel on the beach. You can still get massive reductions if you catch them at the right time, Broadway travel is also a good tour operator from my experience

Its also just as easy to book everything yourself separately, you can get to Barcelona for about £70 return with Ryanair, usd trivago to find a cheap hotel and resort hoppa for your transfers

I always book a local operator in the country I'm going to

You'll get it way cheaper but you do also have that nervous moment when you transfer a load of money to an account in some country not knowing if you'll ever hear from them again

Touch wood it's been fine so far , tbh you can read up on most of the companies on the web and get an idea if they are kosher

I booked with Broadway - I have used them before and always been pleased...................not anymore !!!!!

They recommended one hotel - urged me to get in quick at this price - I checked the reviews on tripadvisor - all seemed good - so I booked - It was only when my kids were reading the reviews that although they were good, it was mainly a couple and singles hotel - not a family hotel as I had requested - I emailed Broadway (Hours after booking)  - and was told I could change it no problem - however the prices to changes were very uncompetitive - I complained that I had been 'duped' into booking a Holiday with them - I took my complaint all the way to ABTA - but they ruled no ABTA guidelines had been broken....

Company have turned into a nightmare, I can't get to print my tickets before 7 days, and for the return journey I have been told they will be emailed so I have to print them while abroad ! - now I have been told they will be faxed to the hotel !  - they blame Ryan Air for everything - but do nothing to help

Be warned - its not the company it used to be....

Tentatively planning a week away at some point in September with the girly, and advice or tips for locations, websites, etc. or am I best looking at the above mentioned?

Considering Tunisia, neither of us have been before, it's cheap weather looks good. Thoughts?

This may not be an educated response but I noticed Tunisia was incredibly cheap, too cheap almost... I think it's a bit volatile there at the moment but how far that spreads and whether it impacts on tourist areas I'm not sure. However it's obviously reduced travel, the museum incident in Tunis won't have helped but it might be perfectly fine. I'd have gone, other half wouldn't as she said any above average risk is too much for a holiday.

Yeah it's a good one that, there's a deal at the mo for 7 nights all inclusive inc. fllights & transfers at a 4* in Cape Verde, £352 p/p...flight is tomorrow. I suggested me and the girly throw week long sickies, we're tempted.

Holidaypirates.com  .....  presumably taking third place behind holidaywestealallyourmoneyandleaveyoustranded.com and holidaycowboys.com  in the "names not to give your online holiday company " competition

Need to book a flight to Seattle. either 1 stop from BHX or direct via Virgin from LHR. Can anyone recommend the best place to purchase flights. Currently around £1100 looking to buy 8 so thought I may have some bargining power but also dont think airlines work like that. Any advice is appreciated.

You didn't state time of year but picking some random dates in June sky scanner is showing BHX to Seattle with US airlines for £680 ... Has a stop over in Chicago ( quite a long one )

Cheapest direct flight from LHR is with Delta at £840

Google " ITA matrix "as that is a very powerful flight tool , you can't book flights from that web site but it will point you in the right direction ,

We are going in August unfortunately.

Tunisia is great and it might well be a lot safer now they are sending the army to patrol tourist resorts, not really how I envisaged spend a fortnight in the sun.

Thomas Cook will let us change with any additional costs if we can find somewhere we like, however the cheapest holidays they can offer are around 50% more than we paid for ours, they said its supply and demand which I read as we can charge what we like now for holidays not in Tunisia, Egypt, Turkey or Greece.
