Lambert, the Aston Villa manager, is ready to offer around £8million for the England international as he bids to further strengthen his squad but is facing competition from Hull City and Everton. Cleverley has been informed he can leave Old Trafford by new United manager Louis van Gaal and seems certain to join another club before the transfer window closes on Monday. And Villa are set to step up their interest in the 25-year-old with a substantial bid which will represent a huge commitment from Lerner, the owner.Lerner has put the club up for sale and is keen to step aside but has continued to back Lambert this summer, with around £12million on transfer fees and wages. And he has agreed to back the Scot with the funds to offer Cleverley a fresh start at Villa Park, with sources claiming the bid has already gone in.Cleverley's reputation has suffered severe damage in recent years and his future at United appears increasingly bleak. Pembers
Surely £8m could be better spent? I think that he probably has a point to prove to a lot of doubters and would be a good signing if he could re find the form he had at Wigan, just not sure I'd be happy paying that much for him, surely he's on big wages aswel? BG_Villa_Fan
Would be a great signing, hopefully we can afford his wages too. Better than what we have atm.
Richard
£8M for a player in the last year of his contract who has flattered to deceive and when we would need strengthening elsewhere, not sure I want this to be true
ForeroGabe
Wouldn't be a bad signing although I'd rather that type of money be spent on a different player but I wouldn't mind if we signed him.

Popular Post CVByrne
My God this site is like the land of never ending negativity. He's a player who will improve our first team. Sanchez, Cleverly, Delph is a strong central midfield and a good core to our team. Added to a solid back 5 and we just need a wee bit more in the wide areas and Benteke back and we've a team to challenge for the top half of the League. Very happy
Villan4Life
Reckons 9mil here http://www.thetimes.co.uk/tto/sport/football/clubs/manchesterunited/article4189666.ece Aston Villa and Hull City have made bids of around £9 million for Tom Cleverley, the Manchester United and England midfielder. United are willing to listen to offers for Cleverley in addition to a raft of other players before the transfer window closes on Monday as Louis van Gaal, the manager, tries to overhaul his squad. Richard
Given we have no or little money to spend and Lambo had a reputed budget of £10M this summer, then 8M suggests to me there may be a sizeable player departure or two. If its someone like Gabby and Bent and maybe Clark or Baker then thats fine. If it is Delph or Vlaar or Benteke in the winter then thats an issue
andyh
Looks half decent in his current team because that team is full of quality players. I cant see how, surrounded by our lot, he would improve our team.
AndyM3000
Not against it but instead of this can we not get Vlaar and Delph's contracts sorted please, that should be a huge priority right now. I don't want us to get to Jan and start blaming a lack of funds/wage budget for why they haven't signed. If we do sign him, he needs to go in the front of the midfield as an attacking midfielder. I think Richard wants us to spend money on proven quality, not just money for the sake of it. What the hell is your problem. Randy?

Very happy Have Westwood to do Cleverley role though, and to be fair Cleverley doesn't score or assist much even if we played him attacking midfielder. Seems pointless when for 8/9mil could get a quality attacking midfielder around europe for that!!
AshVilla
With today's inflated prices 8 mill is probably standard for an english player approaching his peak with international pedigree

dudevillaisnice
My question is this is the creative midfielder we are after? If not how much are we planning on spending on one then? As that after all is the priority. I also have to echo Richard's comments here and if that means i'm negative so be it.

Tell me what more you can get for £8m this summer? As for 'proven quality', he has about 4 years of Prem experience behind him and has played for his country. Popular Post Milfner
I'd like him here. But £8m for a player who isn't wanted by his club and with a year to go on his contract is probably £3m too much.
