John Arne Riise: Could make a Premier League return

Former Fulham and Liverpool defender John Arne Riise has claimed Aston Villa are among the clubs interested in signing him.

The 33-year-old is a free agent after leaving Fulham in the summer, and has announced that Villa have been in touch.

“There has been some interest from a few English clubs,” Riise told VG

Aston Villa is one of them. There has been some interest from Spain also.

“But there is nothing on the table yet.”

While the Norway international admits that he has numerous options, he insisted that a move outside of Europe is not on the cards.

“Of course there has been interest and things I have rejected,” Riise added.

“I will take the time needed. It has to be right for me and my family.”

As said above, let's just hope that the interest was registered before the Cissokho signing. He is a total has-been now and has lost the all attributes that once made him a decent left-back.

Doubt it will happen anyway. Probably trying to drum up interest as he wanted to go to germany earlier this summer... He envisages 2 more years out in Europe but honestly this guy has been past it in the last couple of years. He was a really good player some time ago but no thanks, not good enough anymore to play in the PL.

We've just signed Cissokho and Richardson. We also have Bennett, and in an absolute emergency Clark can play there. Not to mention various players who could fill in there (Hutton, Lowton, Herd).

If we are signing another left back it'll be a younger one who could develop. Either that or Bennett, Lowton, Herd and Clark are all on their way out. And he'd still be third choice left back - seems a lot of effort for cover there when there are other areas of the pitch need addressing first.

I dunno, a 74th left back might come in use.

If we had been seriously interested he'd have bitten our hand off and he knows it. Though perhaps we did sound him out before Randy decided to "splash the cash"?

I'd have been annoyed if we'd signed him to be fair.
