A thread to post interesting things about network operators.

Not for discussions of pricing, contracts or deals, just about features.

I'm really impressed with three.in the short time I've been with them.

Earlier in the year roaming in Dublin at no charge and today they've launched intouch which lets you make and receive calls and texts if you only have wifi available. (I haven't played with intouch yet as the provisioning seems to be down, but I like the idea.)

The EE network coverage in the area in Telford where i live was abysmal i had to leave EE in the end. Currently with Vodaphone for the first time, 2 months in and no complaints from me yet about them.

I used Three roaming in France and it was excellent, the only downside is the final couple of days we stayed close to the Belgium border and my network flipped from a french provider to a belgium one. I racked up some internet charges but after explaining, Three waived them.

Yeah I was with three for a while and they were very good.  Moved to Vodafone because I got a better deal.  The reception has been much better than Three but the customer service not so much.  Although they did thrown in Netflix for free as part of my contract. Nice touch.

o2 are very impressive both in terms of coverage and customer service. Their live text chat thing online is superb.

I'll still be leaving as soon as my contract ends but can't really rate them highly enough.

My wife moved onto Giff Gaff from o2 and loses signal regularly in parts of the house where she used to have a signal for o2. Is there any obvious reason for this? I would have thought the signal would have been comparable seeing as they use o2's network.

I've been on Three since about 2007, their tariffs are very competitive and all you can eat data is brilliant.  I'm thinking of packing them in though, I've noticed the 3G signal has degraded in quality since they started doing 4G.  The two places where I tend to use my phone while I am at work (central Birmingham and central London) are fine for 4G as far as I am aware but 4G still doesn't extend to where I live (Nuneaton, town centre) which is why I've not taken the plunge on a 4G handset.  I can cancel my contract tomorrow if I want as I'm on a month to month SIM only plan but I think I will stick it out until the end of the year when I plan to upgrade my Nexus 4.

I'm with three never really had a problem with them ..it used to be free to use my phone in the UK when I went to games family etc ....unfortunately under new t&cs you have to now buy an add on ....and that includes if I travel up to the north of Ireland

There is no reason at all. It's not comparable, it's identical.

I suspect a dropped phone.

Really odd, it seemed to start as soon as she moved over, maybe it was something like that.

It could also be confirmation bias.

Could well be. If I can be bothered at some point I might stick an o2 pay as you go sim in there to see. Might be a while before I can be bothered, mind.

It seems to be abysmal everywhere.

They are, apparently, the network with the widest coverage in the UK. But all I ever hear from people I know on EE is how they never get signal.

Including myself. I get just about enough signal at home to make a call, but at work it's impossible. I have just about enough to receive the odd text and whatsapp, but it's pretty much a dead zone.

Just finished my contract and moving to Giff Gaff on their goodybag sim thingamajig.

Test your connection before you sign contracts, people!

Oh and before anyone says it might be my phone, it isn't. I've tried my sister's O2 sim and it works perfectly.

Plus when I've been abroad either roaming or, in the case of Thailand, on a foreign sim, I've got beautiful 3G all the time!

Are EE as bad as all the reviews I've read? After 10 years on o2 I thought it might be time for a change, not really got a bad word to say about o2 though, for now I've gone on to a 30 day rolling while I decide on network and phone.

If you've been happy for 10 years, why are you thinking about changing?

If it's pricing, you can get cheaper deals and stay on the same network; giffgaff or Tesco.
