I want to be able to limit my kids time on line, what they do , and block access after a certain time.....bus as they are two different ages I would like to be able to apply different settings to each PC and tablet and phone..... I am with sky at the router settings don't seem to apply at all .....the sky shield is either an on or off system - I thought a hardware firewall - but then the config gets tricky.....I have used cyber patrol before - but its easily bypassed.... Any suggestions ?

Ah I remember when I caught my 9 year old brother googling "sexy girls". I'm zero help here though sorry.

I had thoughts about going this route, felt hammering home net-education was the better choice in the end. They will break usage-rules anyway so better prepare them for what they will encounter online.

I do take stuff away from them if they break rules.

if you're with Sky they have a "shield" thing you can set up "that lets you choose which websites can be seen in your home and block the unwelcome ones. It’s free for all Sky Broadband customers, and includes additional security features to help protect your family from sites that collect private information or disrupt your device".

it works pretty well.

Dont Sky block access to porn automatically as part of Camerons opting out idea?

It might be possible to do somekind of restriction based on individual mac addresses of the different devices but would need to look at the option in the router software.

Sky forums might be of some help on this.

Teach your kids to use the internet safely would be my advice. I'm sure you do this anyway.

Unfortunately, children of this generation struggle with the concept of online and offline lives. Theirs is an online reality and you're better off preparing them for that through allowing them to make the odd mistake and keeping an eye on them.

Mind you, I can understand the nighttime restrictions, if I had kids I'd be worried about them messing about with phones when they should be sleeping.
