Istanbul

My holiday plans are starting to take shape a bit more now... Belgium/Luxembourg in December and Madrid in November.

Now looking at where to go in September for a long weekend with the lads. Istanbul is looking favourite at the minute...

So, good people, any experiences? Biggest question is logistics. Where in such a vast city do you recommend staying? We'll be doing the sights during the day but we want to be based fairly close to a lively area for nightlife. Doesn't have to be the glitzy high end bars and clubs, i'm quite used to a bit of danger and sleaze  ;)

Cheers folks  :)

Istanbul is a fantastic place

Didn't struggle to get a beer there but I don't recall it being full of bars and clubs either ..... It was more cafés and the like ....But yer man that lives there will be able to give you the low down

I went to Istanbul earlier this year and loved it. Stayed at the Gezi Hotel by Taksim Square - not a huge hotel but nice staff and the rooms were lovely with a great view over the Bospherous.

Went to a restaurant and club called Ulus 29, up in the hills. Not cheap but a great setting and full of stunning women.

If you like steak then I can highly recommend going to Nusret too - amazing cuts of meat.

If you ever come to Istanbul make sure you go over to Kadıköy.

Calmer, more attractive women and the market area/bar street is a must for a night out.

That said Beyoğlu/İstiklâl/Taksim does have its merits and clubs can be found for all tastes.

After a night out grab an islak hanburger and waste away the following morning on the can, but by god they're amazing and tasty. If you want a durum that's nearly a metre long look out for a Zurna kebab.

Never support Fenerbahçe, always say you support Beşiktaş. They also, to a man, have a soft spot for the Villa.
