Magaluf August 2014

At the age of 27, I am going on my first ever lads holiday. There will be 4 of us going and we are leaving Birmingham airport on the 27th of August. It costs £312 and for that price that is the return flight, hotel, transfers, travel insurance and the various different taxes and charges. I think we've got a pretty good deal and I am very happy.

I know many of you are going on more cultured holidays then this but I can't wait. Has anyone been to Magaluf and do you think we are going at the right time? All advice and experiences welcome.

I live in Mallorca and I am writing this from Magaluf. I live in Palma which is about 15 minutes drive away but we often pop down to here to Maggers for an English breakfast or a Sunday roast as there just isn't that option in Palma.

Now, Magaluf has a reputation, and rightly so, but it can be a hilarious place to spend some time as long as you go with it and don't try to fight it. What I mean is get as drunk as possible and you'll have a great laugh but being sober here is quite frightening. It will be rammed in August, that is certain, and you will see all sorts of madness, but you will have a good time. The beach here is actually very nice and there are a few activities to do such as the nearby waterpark which I recommend.

All in all you will enjoy yourselves no end, just prepare for the mother of all hangovers on your return home.

If you need any more advice when you are there or before hand just PM me and I'll be happy to help.

:)

I went a lads holiday there 4 years ago for a week and as above mentioned it's something you have be in the right frame of mind for.  In all honesty there were just far too many British people there for my liking, LAD culture was in full swing and you looked out of place a bit if weren't on steroids.

One for the road, I will PM  you closer to the date, it's almost 3 months away. We will be staying at the Martinique Apts hotel which I'm looking forward to, right on the beach. I'm not actually a big drinker but I guess that may change when I get over there. Approaching 30, so I wanted to do the lads holiday thing before I hit that landmark age. Looking forward to pulling a few birds and the occasional night out, but I'm equally looking forward to the day water activities.

I went in 2012, I believe it was.. Was a good laugh, but not my sort of scene tbh. Got a stomach bug half way through, think it was from drinking the hotel tap water or maybe just too much alcohol, but it didn't feel like it. I'd advise drinking bottled water.

I went there last year in May when I was 27.

We got it a lot cheaper (not to rub it in). £150 for flights and 60 euro each for 3 nights accommodation.

But that was May so its not as busy. Your price is probably about right for august.

Listen, maga is what it is. If you want a cultured holiday abroad then you're not going to get it.

If you want a cheap, dirty weekend with the lads then its great craic.

And despite what Rev says, you really won't be older than everyone there. Obviously there's a large young crowd there, but there's a surprising amount of older people there too.

As long as you're going expecting to get tanked up, have a dance, "move to" some birds and spend the day time hungover on the beach you'll be fine.

Fwiw I was supposed to be there again this year but it got cancelled. Might pop out for a weekend in September though.

Regarding my age, this is the first summer period in my life where I have had a bit of money. I was a broke college and uni student for many years, now I'm working. I had to get the lads holiday in before I turn 30 in 2016. Is 3 nights really enough for a trip Magaluf? I am going for 7 nights, coming back in early September.

I'm not actually into clubbing anymore, so I guess it's strange that I would go there, but it will be nice to leave UK for a week, nice weather, nice beaches, women, water activities during the day etc.

Depends how hard you hit it.

I did 3 nights. And we hit it hard. I wasn't in bed before dawn any night and we got absolutely smashed.

So after 3 nights I was done and ready to come home.

If you're there for 7 then I personally would have to have a day or two off, or at least not a mad one. But its totally down to the person.

As for clubbing, there's plenty of bars and pubs to spend the night in and are still a good time. Alex's is a decent spot for a mix between bar and club. That's where we started 2 nights.

I was there with 2 mates (brothers) and their dad was there at the same time. Late 50s and he was there with a load of his friends. He goes every year and has a blast, so that shows you the age range of people there.

Even though you were there for a very short amount of time, it is as outrageous as everyone says. From what I've heard and read, it makes Vegas look tame. 1991 why was it not your scene?

Its as wild as you want to make it. It ranges from puns and restaurants to drugs and brothels.

Dunno about comparing it to Vegas. Never been but I can imagine its a much different scene.

Spent two weeks in Santa Ponsa about 5 years ago and went to Magaluf a few times mainly for BCM, great time. Age won't really matter but expect quite a lot of young lads/girls stumbling around the streets.

I went to Magaluf in 1989

I now how Mooney feels now  !!

It wasn't  a great time to be English when we went for whatever reason , lot of the clubs wouldn't let English people in them , I had quite fair hair back then and blue eyes so would tell them I was Swedish when asked !! few of the boys opted for pretending to be Irish but no way was I doing that :P  ....

We had 3 room and 1 of them got raided by hotel security at 2am and the occupants giving a beating and told to leave  , We managed to get the rep to sort it out , we actually think they raided the wrong room !!! but it kinda spoilt the whole thing all in all ..  people had flags of various nations flying off the balcony , my mate put the Union flag on his and security came in within 10 minutes and ripped it down ..... it was just a weird old time all in all and I've still no real idea why

I do recall a beach that had an small Island a little way off it .. I recall getting completely drunk on Alcoholic slush puppies and swimming out to it with my mate  .. those stupid things you do when you are 19 and bullet proof

Went last year for a few nights for a quick cheap break, stayed in Palma Nova, was a bit more family orientated around there, old people for couples with young kids. Even though it was next to Magaluf you never got any real overspill. Ventured into Magaluf for the night, had a few drinks around BCM, didnt stay for the night but it looks liked everyone was having a blast. Definatley a binge drinking culture with lots of cheap deals on shots.

Also recall some seen adverts for some big clubs in the city centre (Palma?). Either way you'll have a good time.

Side note, theres a frozen yoghurt shop in palma nova who do the best frozen yoghurt ever, company called Llaollao.

Lets not go overboard. As far as clubbing goes I doubt it will be on the same level but you would be able to get away with some outrageous stuff in Maga as they want your business a bit more and security/police might be a bit more relaxed.

Now if you want to know what Maga is like then there are a few TV shows you could watch that should be easy to find on Youtube.

Sun, Sex & Suspicious Parents

Sun, Sex & A&E

The Magaluf Weekender

The first two will have certain episodes set in Magaluf. I think most people seem to hate this kind of TV, I find it fascinating though I don't know why.

Yeah its called black lizard island. Sober people get to it via pedalos. Drunk people swim :D

Voinjama if you want a classier day, go to Nikki beach club at the top end of the beach (the opposite end to the strip).

Birds in there are usually amazing
