smetrov Posted May 17, 2012 Share Posted May 17, 2012 OK - he has landed some good finance deals ie sponsorship and shirt deals and some say his actions re player wages and costs pulled us back from the brink. However I dissapointed and concerned that once again - he seems to be the lead person at VP - charged with landing us a new manager. IMO his hidden agenda seems to be someone who is 'really nice' - I don't know but I beleive this is why we overlooked Hughes last year - and why we won't get Lambert this. Faulkner couldn't deal with that abrasive personality. We have all jumped on the word 'Vibrant' some are quoting faulkner as even saying 'Young' which I don't beleive he said. Ans lets remember the Premier league experience criteria of previous years, To most of us that mean't someone who has recently managed, with a degree of competence in the premier league. - We got :- Houllier - A six year absence from PL management Mcleish - Experience in the PL - Yes - but coping in the PL no IMO Faulkner is a major obstacle to bringing in a quality manager. I think Faulker has **** up at times, but he seems to be able to bring in the players that the manager wants. They make another poor managerial appointment and you'd then have to say the finger definitely needs pointing at them. He came in to this role lacking in experience but I'd like to think that may now have been gained on the job and he should have learned a lot over the last couple of years. Lerner and Faulkner asked this person if they knew of any good football advisors that they could talk to in regards to a manager that matches our criteria, he put them onto Graham Taylor as he knows him and his history at the club and general football knowledge. So they then arrange a meeting with him and Faulkner turns up alone, Taylor told him that he spoke to him for twenty minutes and everything he said basically went over his head and he had no idea what he was talking about, made his excuses and left. When the guy i know was talking to Taylor afterwards he said Faulkner is one of the greenest guys he had ever met and knew absolutely nothing about football. So there you go, the guy making all the footballing decisions in our club has no idea about football... lets just hope they learnt from last year and actually listen to their advisors this year! So after Eck and the lies that went with it all, I would give him this chance now to get the right man in. Ged could have worked out - yes it could. Eck was doomed from the start and you didn't need Yoda to predict the future for you. He deffo said 'vibrant' - well MickMack certainly can't be accused of vibrancy. So you have to relax on that. I thought he had said 'young' too, but I am happy that an older fella could be on the cards. Look - if this great club goes out and appoints another manager who has just got another club relegated (and Mick Mack was SACKED for heading that way remember), then we will have truly learned nothing. You can't even throw in the old chestnut of 'local rivals' or the General's fantastically ebullient 'imagine what he could do if he were backed.' The media have said we have no money to spend, so what would a Mick Mack do? Both he and this great club would be back to square one. He comes across well and I am sure he will be an asset for us. Business wise I dont think we can fault him, the deals he has achieved is the best in our history, footballing wise, I am sure he'll get there in time.
