links to Rodwell  http://www.footballdirectnews.com/premier-league-news/42331-aston-villa-in-for-man-city-outcast.php#.Uxr-m3VJU5M so far

Aston Villa have joined a number of Premier League clubs in the race to sign Manchester City midfielder Jack Rodwell, [football] direct news understands.
The 22-year-old midfielder joined Man City in 2011 from Everton in a £12m deal but he has failed to establish himself at the Etihad stadium, appearing just three times in the Premier League this season.

Rodwell who was once hailed as a future England international has also seen himself fall out of favour in Roy Hodgson's plans and may not go to the World Cup this summer.

However, he has still gained interest from a number of Premier League clubs including West Ham United and former club Everton.

Joining them are Aston Villa and [FDN] understands that Villa boss Paul Lambert is keen to add the youngster to his side.

I imagine the amount of money Rodwell is currently on at Citeh will be nowhere near what we'd offer him (if this is true!)

He'll be loaned out to someone for the season IMO - wages will be a huge stumbling block for a permanent move.

I like Rodwell, think he's a decent prospect but nowhere near the finished article due to multiple injuries and lack of game time. Would I like him at the Villa? Most probably, he'd fit in well alongside Delph and Westwood IMO.

Micah Richards just turned down a new deal at Citeh. I'd love us to get him at right back, unlikely I know but the club linked with him seems to be Liverpool and they already have Glen Johnson filling that position.

http://www.sportsmole.co.uk/football/sunderland/transfer-talk/news/bardsley-a-target-for-villa_142760.html

Linked with Phil Bardsley here :D he was awful a few years back and awful player altogether, even Hutton is better than Bardsley marginally

Phil Bardsley a target for Aston Villa?

Sunderland defender Phil Bardsley is reportedly a summer transfer target for fellow Premier League side Aston Villa.

The 28-year-old, who has stalled on signing a new contract with the Black Cats, is likely to be available on a free transfer at the end of the season.

Villa manager Paul Lambert is now leading the chase for the Scotland international's signature, according to Football Direct News.

Bardsley has spent time on loan at the Villans previously, making 13 appearances for the club in 2007.

And here with Moussa Konate

http://www.ftbpro.com/posts/crippy.cooke/753349/aston-villa-keeping-tabs-on-senegalese-striker-moussa-konate

According to talkSPORT, Aston Villa are tracking the progress of young Senegal striker Moussa Konate, who currently plays for Genoa CFC.

The 20-year old has made 16 appearances for the Serie A outfit this season, scoring just one goal. He’s currently on loan from FK Krasnodar, but Genoa do have a buying option if they are sufficiently impressed with Konate’s performances.

His goal record hasn’t been too impressive at senior level, with just seven goals to his name from 55 appearances with three different clubs. However, he’s only started 20 of the 55 games he’s played in during his senior career.

West Ham and Newcastle are said to have been previously interested in Konate, but no official approach has been made for the striker’s services. Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert is said to have been scouting the youngster for months.

He’s valued at around £1.3m, which would certainly suit the budget structure at Aston Villa at present.

He has similarities to Villa striker Christian Benteke, which may well have supporters fearful that the Belgian could be exiting the side after the 2014 World Cup this summer. Especially, considering how the club were monitoring him while Benteke was going through a bad patch of form for the Villans.

Anyone seen much of this konate fella?

Not seen Genoa loads, just looked at their forum and he hasn't scored much at all. They seem to think a disallowed goal he got might set him off on a run! Quite a few are taking the piss though too. I'll look out for him.

Bardsley, Gardner, Colback and Larsson are all out of contract in the Summer. I assume Bardsley and Gardner will both be linked to us in the coming weeks/months due to them being at the club previously.

Not what you would call prolific. Does look physically similar to Benteke, though.

Hardly, he isn't even 6ft tall.

Colback isn't a bad player for a squad member out of that lot!!

Konate has shown promise but hasn't scored many but he is 20 and lets be honest he is bound to be a lot better than Bowery.

People like Demba Ba wasn't showing much promise or goals until around mid 20's and banging them in at Hoffenheim back then.

Too much of a sicknote for my liking and similar to Westwood in terms of his role so I can't see where he'd fit in.

I think when fit Rodwell is miles better than Westwood an has a lot more to his game. He is a very good box to box midfielder. Unfortunately he is 1) extremely injury prone 2) fancies himself of an attacking midfielder rather than playing defensively which is his strength.

Not related to your post, but someone mentioned Richards, again if fit would be a great acquisition at Rb for us.

Let's hope Kiyotake comes through the World Cup unscathed.

Knowing our luck he will pick up a cruciate injury

Seems to be the going theme when it comes to Villa at the minute. Okore, Carruthers previously Gardner, Delph e.t.c

Two first-team players in four or five years? Hardly a trend, more like the nature of this sport? People get injured all the time.
