Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert has confirmed his interest in signing Wigan Athletic striker Grant Holt on loan.

Holt played under Lambert at Norwich City, but left Carrow Road last summer to join Championship side Wigan on a three-year contract.

He has scored twice in 21 appearances for Wigan in all competitions this term, but now looks poised for a return to the Premier League.

It is understood that Holt will undergo a medical on Tuesday and Lambert acknowledged that the 32-year-old is the type of player he is looking to sign.

When asked if he is interested in Holt, Lambert told Sky Sports after the 2-1 defeat by Arsenal: "There's things going on with a few and we'll try to get people in.

"I know Grant from my Norwich days, he was absolutely brilliant for us. It's a couple of years later down the line, so we'll see."

Quizzed on if it is experience he is looking to sign, Lambert replied: "There is that, plus he's a proper man."

Holt was part of Lambert's squad which won promotion to the Premier League and he scored 15 top-flight goals during the 2011/12 season.

Lambert just can't win can he?  On the one hand, he gets vilified on here for his crap style of play, and not signing anybody decent, but then when he does drop a massive hint that he's going to sign that fat-faced, tub of lard for somebody to else to hoof it up to, he gets slaughtered as well.

Oh.

23 premier league goals in 2 seasons. Understudy for Kozak, really don't see the harm.

If he was our 3rd signing, no one would say too much, but I assume everyone assumes this is going to detract from other business.

23 Premier League goals for Norwich in 2 seasons, he is now at Wigan and cannot even make the team.

18 of those goals scored in the first season, he was awful second season and only scored from penalties.
