A quick review of our prospects and those of our main rivals following the recent transfer window. It's not that bad at all...

Imagine going to Villa Park to see the first home game of the season.
Villa are Champions and you’re going to be watching from the luxury of your seat in the Trinity Road stand after a quiet drink with friends in the newly refurbished McGregor Suite.

I thought I’d take a look at how accurate the press are at picking out their Villa rumours. Obviously picking every single story from every source would be pretty much impossible so I’ve taken the first source from each rumour, to see how the sources shape up against each other on being the first to ‘break’ a rumour. I have credited both Tribal Football and Sunderland Echo with the Cuellar story as they both reported the rumour on the same day. I’ve omitted Guzan rumours because it’s impossible to know who is first, along with the fact that everyone knew we were going to move for him anyway having tried to sign him in January.

Well we have been looking for a clean sheet and now we have one, unfortunately that coincided with our own strike force drawing a rare blank!

Aston Villa 1 FH 1
UEFA Cup
Villa Park
Thursday 28th August 2008
European Nights are back at Villa Park. You know that saying 'absence makes the heart grow fonder'? Well perhaps that's relevant here, because after such a wait it was a little like popping down to VP to watch the reserves.

My first visit to Stoke's "New" ground - I'd been to the old one a few times, and used to quite like it. The Britannia Stadium, today at least was an impressive sight.

You sometimes wonder what the point in trying is if the people who are supposed to be ensuring the rules are kept to fail to even do the most simple things.

Curtis Davies is fast becoming one of my favourite players at our club. After seeing him being interviewed quite a few times now it is clear that he is one of few young English Premier League stars who can actually articulate himself well in an interview (take note Gabby) - he is an honest and very professional individual and is a great asset for Aston Villa Football Club.

This is nothing more than what the title says - a thank you.
It's not a look ahead, a look back, a comment on players we've signed, or sold, the manager, the chairman or the price of pies.
I guess it's one of those "stop and smell the roses" things.

So Gabby just needs just 17 more goals from our remaining 37 league games to prove that he can be the 20 goal a season striker that we need.

Some top quality attacking play, a defensive mix up and a late goal conceded. The first game of the season was just like the majority of last season, wasn't it? Well no, not at all actually.

yes the 2008/09 season is only a matter of hours away so I thought I'd ask the mods and news team to put forward a view on what will happen.
This is part one as we all get a little wordy given the chance.

FH 1 Aston Villa 4
UEFA CUP Qualifying Round 2
Thursday 14th August 2008
On the face of it this was going to be a fairly easy game. The opposition may have been up for trying to cause an upset but it was just a team made up of semi-pro players. And after ten minutes you wouldn't have had too many arguments, either. But make no mistake, the scoreline may point to a Villa walk over, but it wasn't quite that.
